Sunday Routine 🌱
Lately, I've been feeling overwhelmed by everything I'm doing. I used to look forward to weekends to be able to relax but working from home coupled with taking on extra projects has meant that my work carries over and I often find that my weekends are busier than my weekdays. It was so bad I started wishing my weekends away, begging it to be Monday so I could relax. That's when you know you've crossed a line. I suffered burnout.
Now we've all heard of burnout, in fact it's a topic I'm hoping to look in to here on my blog, but what actionable steps could I have taken to prevent it?
Retrospectively this seems an easy answer - it's to have a day assigned specifically to self care and mental health - which is exactly what I've done with my Sunday.
The Outline 💭
The basic outline is simple, I break my day up in to several areas:
What do you do to relax? Do you have a specific day or routine? I'd love to know!
- Daily Habits
- Digital Cleanse
- Film
- Prepare & Relax
8:00am ➡ 10:00am 🌞
Daily Habits
To put it simply, daily habits are those things which I like to do everyday whether it's the obvious like having a shower, brushing my teeth and making my bed or the less obvious like writing my journal.- Make my bed
- Brush my teeth
- Journal
- Practice German for 15 minutes
- Shower
- Get dressed
10:00am ➡ 11:00am 🥞
Breakfast
Sunday's for me mean having pancakes for breakfast. I make oat pancakes every week with caramelised cinnamon bananas and I am OBSESSED. I love cooking and I have such a sweet tooth that this is the best of both worlds for me. I also find it the perfect way to start my Sunday. If you'd like the recipe, you'll find it in another blog post here!11:00am ➡ 12:30pm 🗑
Digital Cleanse
This is super important and an easy task for me to keep on top of. I get all of my tech and do the following;- Empty "Downloads" folders
- Organise files
- Inbox Zero
- Review Calendar
- Meal Plan
- Type up "Drafts"
“Your mind is for having ideas, not holding them.” – David Allen
12:30pm ➡ 2:30pm 🍗
Roast
I'm traditional in this sense. I love nothing more than a roast dinner on a Sunday which I always had growing up. I've continued this into my adult life - the meat goes in in the morning but the rest is done within this window including the best part - eating it!3:00pm ➡ 6:00pm 🍿
Film
This is relatively new in life, only the past couple of years that I've tried to do this, but I've taken to trying to watch a film on a Sunday afternoon. Whether it's one I've seen before and it's classic comfort watching like Mrs Doubtfire or Matilda or something brand new on one of the many streaming platforms I seem to own!If you've got a recommendation - let me know I'd love to hear from you!
This part of my day is the one that helps me start Monday morning without dread. I use this time to prepare anything I can for my work week - if I'm in the office I'll do my meal prep and gather the things I need to take. If I'm working from home, I'll make sure the office is free for me to just walk in, sit down and start my day.
Once these things are done - I can use the rest of the time however I wish as long as it isn't for work. Depending how long the film was and whether it took a lot of brain power here are some things I enjoy doing:
6:00pm ➡ 10:00pm 🛋️

- Reading
- Practicing digital art
- Jigsaws - I don't often push past 500 pieces but I do enjoy them!
- Playing board games
